Volunteer
"I was in prison and you came to visit me." — Matthew 25:36
We could not do what we do without volunteers like you. Whether you volunteer on our outside monthly events or volunteering inside a prison, you are helping us carry the good news and real hope of Jesus.
How to Get Started Serving with us In Prison
We understand that serving and volunteering in a prison can be intimidating and the process can feel unsure. We have put together a step-by-step process for you to be able to follow below. If you haven't already, be sure to watch the video above. We look forward to getting to meet you.
Complete State Online Application
Fill out your state application in about 10 minutes. For the ministry, put "Worthy People" and for the prison unit, put "Torres". If you are already an approved volunteer with the state, please skip to step four.
Complete State Online Training
The state training takes 30-45 mins to complete and is a series of videos and multiple choice questions that will tell you the correct answer if the wrong answer is chosen.
Wait 2-5 Months for Approval
You will receive an email from the state once you are approved. During this waiting time, don't be discouraged! Stay plugged in, and you can still serve at our monthly events. Once you have been notified of your approval, please complete this form so you can sign up for our prison events.
Attend Orientation
Join us for an online Zoom orientation session with Worthy People where we'll walk you through what to expect, dos and don'ts, and answer any questions you have. Once you have shared your completed training, we will email you when our next orientation is scheduled.
Start Serving
Once you're approved by the state and completed our online orientation, you can now sign up to serve for our prison events shown on the events page. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Ways You Can Volunteer
Every gift and skill has a place here. Whether you're behind the scenes or face-to-face with those we serve, there's a way for you to be part of this mission. If you're looking to serve in a prison, please follow the steps above. If you would like to join us at one of our outside volunteer opportunities, you can sign up on the events page. If you would like to serve in other ways behind the scenes or re-entry, please fill out the volunteer interest form below.

FAQ's
Do I need experience?
No prior experience is required. We welcome anyone with a heart to serve, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to making a positive impact.
Is training provided?
Yes, training is provided to help you feel prepared and confident. This may include an overview of our mission, guidelines for outreach, and any necessary requirements set by partnering facilities.
Can anyone volunteer with you in any prison?
No, men can only volunteer at men's prisons, and women can only volunteer at women's prisons, unless you and your spouse come together; then you can attend a men's or women's prison units together. You are also required to be a state-approved volunteer. You also cannot have any known friends or family members on the prison unit that you would like to serve on.
How does it work with traveling to a prison?
Once you are an approved volunteer and have completed our online orientation, you have the opportunity to sign up to join us for prison events. Keep in mind that most prisons do require driving 2-8 hours away, and sometimes lodging is needed. Worthy People creates the space for you to serve in the prison with us. You will be responsible for your own transportation, fuel, and lodging if needed.
Last year, volunteers helped reach thousands of incarcerated brothers and sisters with encouragement, prayer, and practical care. Every letter, every item donated, every hour served carries the same message: you are worth showing up for.
